The Sulgrave Club

The Sulgrave Club was built in 1906 as a single family residence on the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC. Also know as the Wadsworth House, it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is an individually listed landmark on the DC Inventory of Historic Sites. In 1930 it was converted to the Sulgrave Club and has undergone numerous changes and renovations to keep the building current with both its programmatic needs and the with the local building codes.

From 2002 to 2004 our work in this building include an ADA analysis of the building, renovation of the main kitchen, evaluation and preliminary design for a new egress stair through the entire building, and fire alarm system and sprinkler design. Exterior construction and alterations to the building were sensitive to the historic building, and were subject to the review process of the DC Historic Preservation Review Board. The new egress stair provides a second means of exit from the basement. The new glass egress doors on the first floor lead to the private courtyard, and replaced a metal frame door in disrepair. The doors take design cues from the balcony doors above.
