| House on R Street,
Washington, DC
This project consists of a third floor addition to an existing two story, urban Moderne style house notable for its restraint and severity. The house was built in 1940 and is located in the Georgetown Historic District of Washington, DC. A conservatory was also added at the rear enclosing an existing terrace overlooking the garden and swimming pool.
The addition reinforce the classical proportion of the house. The sole decorative motif on the original house, the Greek key frieze was complemented by a simple triglyph motif in the addition.
The new interior elements such as the kitchen and the stair leading from the second to the third floor were designed in a more contemporary aesthetic to complement the owners’ collection of modern art.
