Mt. Zion United Methodist church was the first African American congregation in Washington DC, and was formed in 1816 from the congregation at nearby Dumbarton Methodist Church. The current building dates from 1888, is National Historic Landmark and is on the Freedom Trail in Washington D.C.
The first phase of the project consisted of the restoration of windows and woodwork on principal facade. Also completed was an outline master plan and proposal for a comprehensive mechanical, structural and architectural restoration and renovation project. The project included a complete renovation of the adjacent parsonage as well as geotoechnical and structural investigations carried out prior to installation a new air conditioning system in the church building.
The phased project was carried with the oversight and approval of the pastor, Building Committee and the Board of Trustees.
